Cravings are a part of life. There is nothing we can do about our cravings right? There is nothing wrong with cravings right? Wrong. Many of the foods that we crave actually contain additives that make them very addicting. How many of us have been watching the television and found ourselves suddenly craving a burger being advertised or a soft drink that is being talked about? This is called being addicted to food. Of course, no one is addicted to all food, but most people are addicted to some kinds of food. You may even experience symptoms such as depression or feel emotionally drained when you deprive your body of the foods that you are addicted to. Not surprisingly, all of those foods that are addicting are also not very healthy for you. Why oh why can’t the healthy foods be addicting? Before you get too worried, most of these foods are not dangerously addictive, but it would still be good to cut back a bit on these foods.

Not surprisingly, caffeine is number one in the area of addictive foods. Everyone knows that caffeine is addicting. That is because most of us are addicted to it in some form! Whether you drink coffee, tea or energy drinks, if you have them on a regular basis, you know that you’re addicted to the caffeine in them! Caffeine is not too dangerous, as long as you are not consuming too much. Most people only drink one cup of coffee or tea or one can of an energy drink per day, and this is ok. However, if you are consuming several pots per day, you have a problem. Try to keep it to a minimum.

The next food that is addictive is sugar. This is a hard one to avoid because sugar is in almost everything that we eat. However, not every food that contains sugar has an addicting amount of the food inside. Some foods have more than enough sugar in them though, and you definitely need to watch what you are eating. Sugar is one of those foods that can really pack that unwanted weight on, and you can stop this process by reading the labels of the food you are eating.

Another addicting food that is hard to avoid is carbohydrates. By now you may be wondering if there any foods that are safe for you to eat, but don’t worry, there are plenty of good foods left. For example, just as not all foods with sugar are bad for you, not all foods with carbohydrates are bad for you either. There are good carbs and bad carbs. The bad carbs are found in high starch foods such as pasta, bread and white rice. Good carbs are in foods like vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

If you find that you are becoming addicted to the foods mentioned in this article, there are free support groups online where you can receive the encouragement you need. There is nothing to be ashamed of with food addiction. Most of us are addicted in some way to one or all of these foods, but some people actually have addictive personalities, and if you are one of these people, there is nothing wrong with seeking help.
