Articles Index | Jenny Craig Diet

The Jenny Craig Diet started up in the early 1980s and it has been going strong ever since. Now, with actress Kirstie Alley as their spokesperson, this program is enjoying huge popularity. Her face is seen on their television commercials, posters and her picture is everywhere in each one of the Jenny Craig centers. The message is, if she can do it, you can too! Kirstie Alley has made the program sound and looks easy and fun, and in some ways it can be easier than other diets, but not everyone will love it.

In all of the ads for Jenny Craig, they advertise the low cost of joining the program. It can cost you as little as just $6 dollars per week! That is much cheaper than a lot of other diet programs, but what they don’t tell you, (or what they do tell you in a fast-talking voice at the end of the commercial!) is that the food costs extra – a lot extra! Jenny Craig’s pre-packaged foods can run up as high as $100 per week, making this diet one of the most expensive diets available today.

The same foods that come pre-packaged in this program are also available in any grocery store, so there is that option open to you. It will still cost you money, but probably nowhere near $100 a week! However, there can be a lot of pressure to buy and eat only the pre-packaged meals, as your personal Jenny Craig diet expert receives a percentage of the sale price if you do. This pressure can be hard on some people who like the program, but still want to save money. On the other hand, if you have the money for it and you do not have the time or the desire to cook, the Jenny Craig Diet could be just right for you. While it doesn’t offer group support and encouragement like Weight Watchers for example, Jenny Craig does have a good support system. When you join, you are assigned to your very own Jenny Craig expert, and they are there to help you through the tough times. You can call and talk to them for things like questions on how much of a certain food you can eat, for problems with the program or for tips on exercise.

This program is one of the oldest and longest running diets on the market today, so it cannot be accused of being a fad diet, or just the latest craze. Because of its long life and success, it has proved to be a diet that works. However, before turning over your hard-earned money to them, take a look at your budget and make sure that you can afford to be on the Jenny Craig Diet. Also, as with any diet, make sure you are ready and willing to stay with it for the long haul. No matter what anyone tells you, losing weight is not an easy thing to do, but as long as you have the willpower and determination, you can do it.
