Since this diet is
frequently used by
celebrities, it has
become quite popular in
the past couple of
years. People want to
stay on the top of the
trends and latest
fashions, and now diets
have fallen into these
categories, right along
with clothes, shoes and
make-up! The Zone
Diet is probably one
of the most
“fashionable” programs
to be in these days, but
people should consider
the rules and risks of
any diet before joining.
What is the Zone?
It is basically a fancy
term that means reaching
a state of hormonal
balance that allows the
body to use calories for
energy purposes instead
of giving them to your
fat cells. When you have
achieved this balance,
your body is in the
Zone. The balance
has everything to do
with eating the right
mixture of foods,
including low fat meats
and cheeses, limited
servings of fruits and
vegetables and some
olive oil.
This diet, like many
others, has its pros and
cons. One of the upsides
to this diet is that it
cuts back on refined
carbohydrates, which
actually have very
little nutrition, and
replaces them with the
more healthy
carbohydrates, such as
low starch vegetables
and fruits. Although
this is a good thing,
the American Heart
Association still
does not recommend the
Zone Diet because
of the lack of essential
nutrients that are lost
in the banned foods of
this diet.
Another downside to this
program is the fact that
dieters have to do a
great deal of work when
it comes to calculating
the exact amounts of
fat, protein, carbs and
calories in every meal.
Because of eating out,
dining at other people’s
houses and having to buy
your own food, dieters
find this task
considerably hard. Let’s
face it. This diet is
only for those with
extreme control,
patience and willpower.
